Modern Arabic Articles & Essays

مُختارات من المقالات والمَقالات الحديثة

A graded reader of modern Arabic prose — autobiography, essays, journalism — organised across the ten contemporary topic areas of the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Arabic specification (4AA1). Each lesson is a short, fully-vocalised text from a published author, presented line by line with English translation, vocabulary keyed to root, two grammar notes drawn from the spec, comprehension and writer's-craft questions, and an open-ended discussion prompt. Aimed at the upper-intermediate L2 reader bridging toward GCSE-level material.

How to read. Each lesson opens on the Arabic text alone — tap a line to reveal its translation, key vocabulary, and a short language insight. Read the Arabic first; check yourself against the translation; then study the grammar note and try the comprehension questions before opening the marker guidance.

Two lesson types. Core lessons (Lesson 2 onwards) follow the exact text profile Pearson uses in the 4AA1 reading paper: ~300-word contemporary expository articles, no tashkīl in the body by default, with a "show vowels" toggle. Extension lessons (currently Lesson 1) cover canonical Arabic literature for cultural enrichment — fully vocalised, but not the kind of text the exam itself uses.

The reader is in active development. Lessons are released topic by topic; check back for new additions.
