al-ʿAqāʾid an-Nasafiyya is the short creed of Najm ad-Dīn ʿUmar b. Muḥammad an-Nasafī (461–537 AH / 1068–1142 CE), a Ḥanafī jurist and Māturīdī theologian of Samarqand. In about twelve hundred words it moves from the sources of knowledge, through the nature of the world and the attributes of God, to prophethood, the afterlife, the caliphate, and the limits of belief and disbelief. Saʿd ad-Dīn al-Taftāzānī’s commentary on it became a standard textbook of the madrasa tradition.
